Security, energy, and industrial sites face wildly different visual conditions — from open-pit mines to foggy perimeter zones. Until now, operators had to rely on a fixed AI model, forcing a trade-off between range and precision.

  • In large-area patrols, AI often missed smaller or distant targets.
  • In close-range monitoring, false positives slowed decision-making
  • Environmental factors like lighting, terrain, and background movement further challenged model performance.

The result? AI detections that were accurate, but not always adaptable.

The Solution: Configurable Intelligence at Operator Speed

With the latest AI-R update, operators can now shape their AI’s behavior in real time — deciding how the system detects, filters, and prioritizes objects based on the mission at hand. Inside the AI-R Settings panel, two new controls redefine adaptability:

1. Model Switching

Operators can toggle between two AI models based on operational needs:

  • Large Object Detection – optimized for close-range, high-confidence detection of people and vehicles.
  • Small Object Detection – optimized for long-range or wide-area detection, ideal for identifying smaller or distant subjects in expansive sites.

Each model is trained for specific visual conditions, giving teams the flexibility to match AI performance to mission context — not the other way around.

2. Confidence Threshold Control

A new slider-based control lets users set how certain AI-R should be before marking a detection.

  • Lower thresholds (e.g., 30-50%): capture every possible detection, useful for search, public safety, or long-range observation.
  • Higher thresholds (e.g., 80-90%): filter only the most confident results, ideal for compliance-critical security or automated alerting.

This allows users to balance recall vs. precision, adapting AI sensitivity in seconds — without leaving the cockpit.

Real-World Impact: Precision Meets Control

Across FlytBase deployments, AI-R powers visual intelligence for autonomous drone-in-a-box systems used in:

  • Perimeter security — reducing false alerts while maintaining 24/7 situational awareness.
  • Industrial inspections — detecting equipment anomalies even from long distances.
  • Emergency response — quickly identifying people or vehicles during search and rescue missions.

With Model Switching & Confidence Control, these operations can now adjust in real time to mission type, environment, and urgency, ensuring that each detection aligns with operational intent — not just algorithmic logic.

Inside the Cockpit: Control Made Intuitive

Within the AI-R dashboard, operators now see a clear, two-step configuration panel:

  1. Model Type Dropdown — Select between Large and Small Object Detection Models.
  2. Confidence Threshold Slider — Adjust the desired AI confidence percentage (0–100%).

Each change takes effect instantly, allowing operators to test, visualize, and optimize detections live — whether during setup or mid-operation.

The feature is designed with enterprise usability in mind:

  • Quick visual feedback during mission replay.
  • Safe experimentation in simulation mode before live flight.
  • Persistent settings saved per site or mission profile.

Why It Matters

This update represents a broader shift in the FlytBase AI strategy — moving from automation to adaptive intelligence.

  • It gives operators agency over AI performance.
  • It makes AI-R environment-aware and mission-specific.
  • It ensures FlytBase remains the most operator-centric AI autonomy layer in enterprise drone systems.

Whether in a high-security refinery, a mining pit, or a wide-area energy site, AI-R now offers the flexibility to detect what matters most — where it matters most.

FAQs

Find quick answers to common questions about compatibility, setup, features, and pricing

What does Model Switching do in AI-R?

Model Switching lets operators choose between two detection modes; Large Object Detection for close-range accuracy and Small Object Detection for distant or wide-area detection. It ensures optimal AI performance across different environments and mission types.

Can I change these settings during an active mission?

Yes. Both Model Type and Confidence Threshold can be adjusted in real time within the AI-R Settings panel under Cockpit View. Changes apply instantly without needing to restart the mission.

Is this update available for all users?

Yes. Model Switching & Confidence Control are available to all AI-R users as part of the latest release. If you don’t see the update, ensure your FlytBase instance is running the most recent version or contact support@flytbase.com .

What is the Confidence Threshold slider for?

The Confidence Threshold slider controls how certain AI-R must be before tagging a detection. - Lower thresholds (e.g. 30–50%) = more detections, greater coverage. - Higher thresholds (e.g. 80–90%) = fewer false positives, higher precision.
